So it turns out that the contaminant in the recalled pet food was rat poison; if found to be tampering, and they find the person responsible, what would be an appropriate punishment?

Hard time. Aside from the fact that innocent animals may have been poisoned and killed by the contamination, it's an extremely sad reality that some homeless people consume pet food due to the fact that it is generally quite cheap. If a death was caused by tampering, that person would be a murderer. You also have to take into consideration that small children will eat just about anything they can get into, including pet food.

The deceased pet owners would like the guilty party to have a can of that tainted food, on them and feel the same pain suffered, by their pet. Anyone disagree?

If a person was found to have been responsible for deliberately contaminating the food items, then that person should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and punished as severly as the law allows, not time off for good behaviour or parole. It would be nice to let animals rend him or her limb from limb or force that person to eat the contaminated food and therefore die or be permanently disabled because of the effects, but that then make us no better than the criminals, we are supposed to be better and to keep trying to be better.

Prison, with no chance of parole. What if a child had gotten into it? My granddaughter is forever picking up the dog food and following my dogs around with it. I'm sure she's had a taste of it at some time, and probable will again. Thats kids.

Maybe that person should have to stand and listen to the children who have lost their pets, telling the story of their anguish. One after another, after another....

Personally, I think the only way to go is to acquire those responsible for "tainting". Then taking them to a secluded area somewhere and hanging them upside down by their ankles with barbed wire. Next would let the most radical violent members of PETA come in and proceed to beat and ravage them to the point of death. Then finally they would all be forced to join all of the illegal immigrants in replacing our troops overseas in iraq with nothing but a canteen and a sign on their backs saying " I hate mohamed". If this seems a little violent to anyone, then chew on this..... If your pet died from this taint, and you tried to sue you would get at the most a few hundred dollars because the law doesnt view animals as part of the family. It views them as possesions, therefore you also could not get pain and suffering.....Still think i am being too cruel. And about the iilegals... Cmon now, that problem has just been going on long enough!!!! Sorry if i have offended anyone!
