Yes, you should talk to a doctor or pharmacist, but hypothetically speaking, they are in different chemical families, so they shouldn't be a problem together if a patient tolerates each well separately (but don't mix aspirin, ibuprofen, and/or naproxen sodium (like in Aleve)).
Note that acetaminophen is called paracetamol, particularly outside the US).
Be very careful to understand the amount of acetaminophen you are actually taking. Too much can be very toxic. In fact, it is the most common cause of acute liver failure in the US. It is very easy to overdose with the prevalence of "extra strength" products on the market. You can get toxic dosages at less than twice the maximum label dosages.
This is an especially challenging problem because many drugs contain acetaminophen, including many over the counter cough and cold remedies, as well as many prescription drugs. As a result, you can inadvertently take a very high dose without realizing it. (once again, a good reason to talk to your doctor and pharmacist and to read labels very carefully.
You shouldn't try this yourself without consulting your doctor or a pharmicist with access to your medical record because everbody's system is different, but for the record (and I shouldn't be telling you this because if it doesn't work for you I don't want you to get sick), my doctor prescribed both acetaminophen (the ingredient in Tylenol) and ibuprofen (the ingredient in Motrin) for my arthritis, and I take them at the same time, three or four times a day. The ibuprofen helps with the swelling and joint inflamation and the acetaminophen is just for pain.
Ask a registered/pharmacist at your local drug store, or check with your nearby Poison Control Center, just to make sure.
