You're reading !!i can read your mind!! first choose a number/ money in your head, then your dad gave you the same number of money, and i gave you $200 throw half of the money that you, your dad and i gave you in the sea. then bring your dads money back. $100 left? yes

I'm pretty sure this is what the question means:
[(78+78+200)/2] - 78 = 100
.
Essentially,
[(2x+200)/2] - x = (x+100) - x = 100
So it doesn't matter what number you choose.

I thought it was 78+78+200/2 + 78 (dad's money brought back).

Since you can't very well fish the money out of the sea, I was figuring you brought his money back to him.

trick is: any number + dads money the same as yours and my money i gave to you (e.g $200) throw half of total, money bring dads money back and the remainning has to be $100 thats how you can trick your friends
warning: you can only use even numbers or numbers the can be halfed e.g 2, 4, 6, 8, 10.....
