The creatures most correctly called daddy-longlegs are in their own separate Order which is Opiliones.
me and my boyfriend argue about this all the time! he says there spiders i say there weird creepy flying things. i think hes right tho.
most people do mistake a Harvestman (the actual name or daddy long legs, we call them grand-daddy's here)for a spider b/c they resemble one. However the difference is in the body. See this link for all your info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opiliones
similiar to an aphid
It is normally a kind of spider. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pholcidae
I think what you're talking about is the Crane Fly. Which are also called that sometimes.

The Cellar Spider is my idea of a daddy long legs. We call the crane fly a 'skeeter eater'.

You're reading What's a 'daddy-long-legs'? Me and my family used to call those freaky looking flying things 'daddy-long-legs'...if you left the window open on a summer night there would soon be one of those things dancing in the corner of the room. They're not spiders..?
