Can I dammage anything in my car by not checking whats wrong when the check engine light is on? I drive a ford focus.

    could be nothing more than an o2 sensor and up. is the car running fine? do you notice any lose of power or anything else? if so then yes get it hooked up and checked. most better auto parts stores do it for free. even if it is an o2 sensor if left to long then it can cause problems fuel mileage drops, carbon build up ect.

    Usually the check engine light (CEL) comes on when something electronic fails. Usually your engine internals will not be damaged but your car may not run correctly. If the coolant or oil light come on then immediately stop the car and refill said fluid.

    Usually the check engine light has to do with the emissions system. If it starts to flash on and off then you might be in trouble. I know people whose check engine has been on for years with no trouble.
