  • Asking people to be hypocritical is never good policy. DADT must be repealed.
  • I have no problem with them being in the military. I don't think they will be discharged for revealing their orientation. If they do reveal it, they had better watch themselves. Plenty of gay haters would be looking to beat their ass. Shit, as long as gays exist, why not let them serve in the military? Its not like they are contributing to human life anyway. I say put them on the front line of battle.
  • Personally, I think it's pretty silly. If some guy is checking out my ass, then ok. It's "Look, but no touch" and after they know that, then I know they'll stay back. I think it's actually bad we have this policy, the main reason for not allowing gays in service, was due to the fear of "Outing" them they'd be vunerable to being subverted by an enemy. But if we openly allow it, then there's no longer the fear of being outed.
  • Typical dumb political compromise - but probably the best that can be done at the moment. Much better to be "out", organisationally as well as politically. But the current state of religious beliefs and religious control of the political agenda do not permit. Live with it for the moment, fix as soon as possible.
  • It was a baby step to some and a leap too far for others.
  • What really makes me shake my head is people thinking gays in the military is a new thing. It is not. DADT was, as another poster pointed out, a very bad compromise.
  • I think gays should be allowed to serve in the military if they want to. But lately why should they?? They have no rights to defend anyway. Marriage, for one.
  • President Obama is dealing with this issue in his own straightforward way http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8301120.stm and promises to end the ban on gay people serving openly in the military. This approach seems to solve the problem of "what do we do if somebody asks and somebody tells".
  • The whole thing is ridiculous. We've lost some of our best members because of this asinine view. Why not make love of classical music a reason to kick someone out of the military? How about someone who dyes his/her hair? They're phonies aren't they? Let's kick them out too. While we're at it, anyone who prefers a homecooked meal to eating at a fast food joint should be kicked out too. Ridiculous! :(
  • I've always wondered why those who couldn't be bothered to serve in the military insist upon strictures for those who could. In other words: Lie your arse off. You can sneak around all you want grabbing every other gay piece you want, just don't be honest about it. Because the Old Man of the Squadron's heart might flutter over the notion that a young woman feels more desire for another woman than his wrinkly butt. Nice moral there.
