Sharia law is man made based on what a bunch of guys are interpreting the words and will of God to be. It is mostly incorrect and wrong with disastrous effects. I am a Muslim by the way. Good question

Judge it by its alleged "crimes" and humanitarian punishments.

Case by case outcomes are what they are. What's to misunderstand?

Hey "JESUS-IS-MUSLIM", who gave the authority to those who made the shariaa law? Other people? themselves? God told mohammad in the quran you cannot guide people, even those you love, guidance is by god. I want to know by which divine permission a bunch of people have taken it upon themselves to decide for men and women and people's lives. God is alive and can guide whoever he wants. please dont project your social and tribal views on Islam. there are many muslims in the world, those surrendered to the will of god, who do not agree with your views of the quran and all things.

I do not know Sharia law,so I would say I misunderstand it myself. That probably means my ignorance of it means I have no right to judge if it is understood or misunderstood by others.
It is arrogant to give an opinion on what one does not understand themselves.

Well, for those living under Sharia law, it doesn't matter if they understand it or not. They have no choice but to live it.

Not really, it's pretty clear what Sharia Law stands for and knowing that, how anyone could endorse it is beyond me. Mixing religion with government policy is a big no-no. There is nothing more criminal in society then to mix beliefs with legislation, what a huge misuse of power.

That's like asking if Hitler was just misunderstood.

Sharia law is codified barbarism, and no one would try to defend it, except a barbarian.

I think we could borrow some elements of it for the western world, maybe then women would finally learn to stop exposing themselves.

Probably a lot of Sharia law is pretty good stuff. However there are some glaring injustices built into the system that make it unpalatable to those with a Western sense of justice (not to mention women with pretty much ANY sense of justice).
    .
The thing about religious pre- and proscriptions is that they should be individually applied. That is to say if God wants you to do or not do something then you as the believer should be in charge of your doing or not doing whatever it is. Not a church representative and definitely not a church enforcer.
    .
As it happens a Muslim cannot beat his wife on her face or 'in her sensitive areas'.
    .
An American Muslim cannot beat his wife at all because the law of the land provides more limits than the Sharia law.

It's not 'just misunderstood'. Sure, some people don't understand it completely, or have misconceptions, but at the end of the day, it's still barbaric.

No I don't and I definitely don't want to live under it. I especially don't want my wife and daughter to have to live under it.
