Question

Help answer this question below.

If someone wants to die because of illness, pain, they're just unhappy or any other reason do you think it would be wrong of them to kill themselves or hire someone to euthanize (sp?) them?

    Blackberry.

This isn't black and white, but essentially, no. Either way, if someone wants it that bad - and isn't just looking for attention - they will do it themselves.

Assisted suicide is legal in Washington, but you must be within 6 months of death. They issue you a lethal sleeping pill at that time if you choose to die. I think it is an option that should be open to everyone.

I've never understood why we would put animals out of their misery but not humans. Who knows what hell people go through, living with intense unhappiness or pain. It isn't wrong to eliminate misery.

I am all for assisted suicide but not dying by your own hand. I think they are unrelated. I did a paper in college about assisted suicide.

In the cases of Dr. Kevorkian, he encouraged all of his patients to discuss this with their families & get their affairs in order.

If someone is going to chose to end their life, what is more dignified? Killing themselves & leaving the mess for their family to find? Or, taking a pill given by a dr with their family around holding their hand?

I think that terminal illness and pain are just cause for anyone's desire to end it all, and should give them the right to ask for help if needed. I also believe that if you're truly unhappy about living then you have the right stop, but no one should get caught up in helping with this one.

Just think of the money that could be saved not having the police called in and traffic being stopped whenever there is somone who is threatening to jump off a bridge.

this is my honest opinion on the matter.
if someone is terminally ill or something of the sort where they know they are going to die, they have their affairs in order, & they're ready to go, & do not have the physical capability to end their life, then assisted suicide is okay.

however, if someone is depressed & has the ability to seek help, then i think assisted suicide is not okay.
i think if you're healthy but sad & make the decision to end your life, you better have the balls to do it yourself. & not in a pill-popping, wrist-slitting way either where you have a good chance of surviving. if somebody really wanted to die, they would make sure they didn't have a chance of surviving.

don't be a coward when taking the coward's way out.

No, it's their life. Nobody else's business really. Like an abortion. It should be legal to hire someone to do something that's hard or dangerous for you to do yourself.

Just being unhappy may be a stretch, but for many other "terminal" and serious no way out scenarios euthanasia should be acceptable.
