Thank you for your question.
Benny Hill was born Alfred Hawthorn Hill in 1924. At the beginning of the war, he was at Tauntons School at Southampton. He didn't fight in the war. Instead, he did a number of jobs including as a milkman in Eastleigh (where he drove the fastest milkcart in the East :>)), bridge operator, driver and drummer. He got his first job in comedy working as Reg Varney's straight man - Peter Sellers was another applicant. He took his name from his favourite comedian Jack Benny.
