Benny Hill would've been old enough to fight in WWII. Did he? If not, why and what did he do instead?

or you could beleive... "Hill saw army service in the later years of World War II and it was there that he began to perform as a comedian."
    from:www.museum.tv/archives/etv/H/htmlH/hillbenny/hillbenny.htm

or "After his national service with the army during WW2"

or "During World War II, he served in the British Army, and after his discharge in 1945,"

or "his war service he built up on-stage experience with the show Stars in Battledress and switched to the music-hall stage in post-war years."

    G'day Shultz,

    Thank you for your question.

Benny Hill was born Alfred Hawthorn Hill in 1924. At the beginning of the war, he was at Tauntons School at Southampton. He didn't fight in the war. Instead, he did a number of jobs including as a milkman in Eastleigh (where he drove the fastest milkcart in the East :>)), bridge operator, driver and drummer. He got his first job in comedy working as Reg Varney's straight man - Peter Sellers was another applicant. He took his name from his favourite comedian Jack Benny.

I have attached sources for your reference.

    Regards
