"You know what a hero is? 99% of time it's someone who's tired enough and hungry enough and scared enough not to give a damn."(Hawkeye from M*A*S*H) How far could you agree with this statement?

    Depends what your definition of a hero is.

    I look at people who give of themselves to others for no other reason but because they want to. This would include parents, youth leaders, sport coaches, volunteers at soup kitchens, etc.

    To me these are the real heroes.

    The difference between a hero and others is that where others as "Why should I help that group or person? Is there something in it for me?", the hero asks themselves "Does that person or group really need my help?"

    Makes perfect sense and connects with my Marine experience. Heroes don't volunteer for the job; they have it thrust upon them. (I said that)

    Completely. When you're pushed and pushed and pushed, eventually you're going to snap and DO something. Sometimes, that something makes you unique and a hero. A god example of that would be Ned Kelly....
