They aren't and that's why insurance rates are higher for teens than for people over 21.

Says WHO? Statistics bear out that teens have more accidents than adults...
but they MAY be better as often they will have quicker reflexes than some adults.

While their reflexes may be sharper than an adult, their judgement is not. And if they are too busy texting their hormonal friends sitting in the back seat of the same car they are in, reflexes don't matter. :(

I agree...and I got a chuckle out of the 'texting their hormonal friends sitting in the same car'..how true!

Well, for one... they often aren't.

However, reasons why some are would be that they haven't developed the bad habits adults have and don't believe they are amazing drivers and therefore they pay more attention.

um..they pay more attention when they are NOT texting!
Avatar Elfie Oct, 07 2009 at 03:19 PM
I've seen a lot of adults texting/typing on their blackberries. It isn't simply a teen thing to do. And that is why I said -some- are. I obviously wouldn't be including people who are driving distracted as ones who drive better....

Because your definition of better driver includes how fast you can weave through traffic and how many donuts you can do in a Wendy's parking lot!

Now that one made me smile. It is obviously true of course. (Note: a spousally aimed shoe will soon be aimed at my head, leaving me to guess how good I am at ducking.)

We teens are better drivers than adults, if by adults you mean people who are 75+ years old. If you mean adults as in people who are 21-60, we're not.

I'll concede that at some point, an aged adult should also not be driving. However, to say that those 75 and older are poor drivers is far too arbitrary, just as it is too arbitrary to say that all teens are terrible drivers.
