I like using an old fashioned balance (aka scales). Put 10 blocks of something weighing 1 pound on one side, and 20 blocks of something weighing half a pound on the other, and show that the scales maintain being equal if you remove equal weight, move equal weight from one side to the other, double the weight on both sides, or half the weight of both sides.
