Got caught in a mild hailstorm on the way back home. No cover on that stretch of highway, so I just stopped the car on the shoulder and waited it out. Saw a couple of bits of hail that could have been nickel-sized, but on the whole not *too* bad. No damage to the car at all. My mother, however, got caught in a hailstorm with golf ball-sized hail. The car got quite a few dings and needed to get the roof replaced.

I've been in a few hail storms. The worst one I remember being in was on 31 July 1987 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; as I was coming from work that day, hail and rain were pelting down like anything. Little did I know that during my trip home, a tornado was striking the east end of the city. That tornado killed twenty-seven people, making it the second deadliest tornado in Canadian history. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmonton_Tornado

3 of them during my youth, delivering for 2 newspapers. It was all smaller hail stones, but for one time, when they hit you, it hurt. I haven't seen that once since then. that was back in the 1970s.
