I'm going to have to say just the angst of being a teen. Everyone hates themselves and their whole family when they're a teenage. What's better than to get away from it all.

According to all the domestic violence calls i have answered in 44 years, its what they think are oppresive parents. But, the real bottomline is not this at all. its called puberty.....the transition from a child into a young man or woman. When the hormones begin to rage, so does the attitude. Its been like this for years and it effects both boys and girls. Most make it through this time, some do not and runaway from home. As they progress in years, they realize how stupid some of those moves they made were for themselves and their parents. how do i know this? being a cop for 44 years, i have watched some teenagers grow out of this puberty situation into adults. two of them included my granddaughters. Most all parents face this situation. its just something you have to grin and bare as a teenager and their parents.

I would figure that teenagers suffering actual abuse would be less likely to run away because their confidence had been lowered.
