it's a time-release oxycodone tablet. I'd say that it is dangerous to break them in half because you just broke the time-release coating.
It depends... some pills are time released, controlled release, or extended release (usually marked on the bottle as TR or CR, or EXT). Breaking them up negates this. Some people do this as a means of absorbing all of the drug at once, getting them higher quicker. This can be dangerous as an overdose is possible. It totally depends on the dose of the drug, the person's body composite, tolerance, current drugs in their system, etc. Some pills that are meant to be cut will have a score in the center of them. If the person cuts the pill in half and only takes half, this can also be dangerous. Research has shown that just because you "half a pill" doesn't ensure your getting exactly half a dose. The fact is there could be more of the active narcotic in one half than the other.
