Was the historical mass suicide by the jews of masada justified vs not justified?

    Technically, Masada was not the site of a mass suicide. It was instead a site of mass murder. Each head of household killed his family Then lots were drawn to see who would kill the next. Eventually there was only one person left, and he alone committed suicide. The taking of ones own life was not considered to be honorable, so in this way only one person in the group of people on masada was guilty of that.

    It was justified in their minds, which was all that mattered. They chose death rather than slavery under the Roman Empire. A sentiment that I can identify strongly with. Better to die on ones feet than live on ones knees. +4
