Why does society and people tend to make women feel less when they have slept with many men but make men feel good and manly when they have also slept with many women? Where did we start that? Why is it ok for men to have many partners but not for women

In patriarchal societies, men have power. Rape is physical power over another (and the weapon used is sex). (I mean "rape" here as all forms of rape: male-female, female-male, male-male, or female-female.) Nowadays, rape is not acceptable, but a male having several partners is seen as a powerful person because the "rape root" still exists, so more (permitted) conquests, more power. (Think "Alpha Male")

Women=conquests. Conquests=power. Sex with women=power over another. It comes full circle (even if the sex is mutual).

/DIGRESSION/ (Think about the stories in the news where a male is raped by another male or by a female-- he needs to "be a man" and "get over it." There is very little help for male sexual abuse survivors... but that's a whole other story.) /END DIGRESSION/

It also has a lot to do with the fact that women were seen as property throughout history, and thus were "used" by men. Women had two functions: make babies and satisfy men. Now, that's generally no longer accepted in Western culture, but the "women-as-objects root" is still there.

Listen in our language. The word "p***y" is often used as a synonym for weak (even though the word also refers to female anatomy). "B***h" is someone who is weak and annoying (and the word itself is feminine). The word "d**k" is someone who is annoying but powerful (and refers to male anatomy). And so on...

Women "can't have that power," so most people still see them as having sex with multiple partners, not for power, but for "worth." (The old stereotype that "women define their worth by men" is still prominent, as sad as it is.) It is sad because many women fit this stereotype of being "emotional" and thus needing their worth to depend upon sex. We see this in impoverished areas where women having several men's babies in the hopes of "keeping the baby daddy around" by having all their children. Clearly, this does not work either. (Notice that this is not seen much in the lesbian community.)

The truth is that society is overcoming its gender roles and biases slowly. The concepts are changing, but they're still present in our language.

In our culture men want a woman who is only for them. It makes them feel masculine. Also I think that many people feel that a woman who may have lots of casual sex has no self respect and isn't a woman in the typical ways. Its just one other way we judge each other.

i THINK IT HAS CHANGED. EVERYTHING IS MORE EQUAL NOW. MANY WOMEN SLEEP WITH LOTS OF MEN JUST FOR SEXUAL PLEASURE BECAUSE THEY LOVE SEX TOO!

No woman could ever be a slut cos of her majic number. One friend of mine put it best when he said..."Women can get laid anyday anytime several times a day and still have their choice of man." There are 365 days in a year. I've yet to meet a woman that have slept with over 40 guys. All things considered men would not be the same so they all need to shut it.They hate because women do have power there.

because 'god' has become a man. there is no 'goddess' in popular thought. women exist only in their relationship to men, and though it has not always been that way, it has been that way for so long that it is hard to imagine a time before. society is comprised of people, so if individuals take it amongst themselves not to care about sexual escapades, eventually society may shift. how western society sees sex is also to blame. sex is not something dirty and to be ashamed of.
