Why do you still use WinRAR or WinZip while 7-Zip has up to 3x better compression ratio?

• False.
  The best compressor is actually PAQ8PX. It compresses a bit better with level 8 compression than 7-Zip with LZMA maxed integers, but level 8 requires atleast 2Gb RAM to work.
  KGB Archiver is using an outdated version of PAQ.
   
  What's so *hard* about 7-zip? Just right-click on a file, select 7-zip and "add to archive..". And extracting is same easy. Is THAT TOO hard?
   
  If you have a weak PC and you care more about time, then you can configure the compression settings of 7-Zip to make 7-Zip compress faster. And even then the results will be 2x better than WinRAR's.

• Actually, WinRAR is free too (or, I somehow managed to get WinRAR from Microsoft for free). But yeah, 7-zip is clearly the best. I think most people that prefer the other programs just don't want to bother with taking two minutes to learn a new interface.

  And then there are the people who want to be able to click New->Zipped folder, which is extremely lazy, but I know a few people who I would never dare try to teach to use 7-zip (like my grandmother).

• I meant that people expect to be able to treat zip files just like normal windows folders (which only WinZip does). It's a dumb reason not to switch, but some people can't handle the difference in interface.

• But, 7-zip works too, and I've used them all before. WinZip, WinRAR, WinAce.. I've used 7-Zip for over 3 years now, and it's working without problems, and it has best compression and speed than any other compressor out there. .. and I never want to hear anything about WinZip or WinRAR again.
   
  Why won't you give a try and use 7-Zip for some time?
