The answer to that question depends almost totally on your spending habits. Also it depends on your definition of "comfortably."

right now, personally, $15,000 a month would be comfortable. that is, until next week, when i need $16,000 a month. n + 1 til i die.

Spending habits have a way of acclimating to an increase in income. If it where just me, I could live comfortably on $35,000/ year.

    it depends
I have 4 kids a wife, and an aging father in law
I'm close to 6 figures and with tuiton it can get tight, but for the most part it is comfortable
We aren't one to keep up with the Jones and could do without an income for about 6 mts.
I consider comfy not living paycheck to paycheck

I could live like a king on 100,000 per year.
I could survive on 30,000 per year.

It is often just a little more money than you currently have. "Comfortable" is a relative thing after all.

The trick is to know what you truly need, not what you are told you must have by a salesperson, by crafty marketing. Follow that guidance, and you can often live quite comfortably on what you already have.

question of the night ,really it is what a person wants to be satisfied with in life ,at times we all dream of being rich ,then i think when is enough enough and that is the problem for some people it would not matter if they had millions it still would not be enough and to live comfortably ,i can live well i 500 dollars a week and that is what i do ,i am happy with that plus i have some savings for holidays and rainy days ,so it is a real question that you would get all sorts of answers from sensible to the stupid answers ==============+5

My understanding is that, for most people, the figure is 20% more income than one currently has.

This seems to be true regardless of how much income people have.

That depends on where you live, and the cost of living there, and it depends on your life style, my thought would be different then lets say paris hilton.

At present I do pretty well on about $35,000 per year, its plenty for my rather minimal spending habits, however I do wish I could convince them to just pay me about three ounces of gold a month (my approximate pre-tax wages) since we are going to have some nasty inflation with the game the Fed keeps playing with our money.

I would say 1000 ounces of gold per year has been the answer for the last 5000 years, (and well into the future also).

For me it would be about $50,000 a year. I could do very well on that..
Of course, you have to give almost half to State and Federal, better make it $100,000.

Of course it varies according to each person's needs and wants, but THIS person would love an after-tax income of $75,000 per year. Although I do fine on less than that!

It depends on how many life sucking kids you have. But I'd say 50 thousand a year, for a single person at least.
