What ever happened to Jeff Mangum from Neutral Milk Hotel? His last album was in 1998, is he still making music?

He went on the elephant six holiday tour a few years ago, and played only one song (My friend actually got to meet him, which is pretty rad.) Apparently now he only contributes to his friends albums.
