In a situation like that, I would "shoot to stop" or "shoot to wound," but NEVER to kill. (Too many forms to fill out.)
One shot in the spinal cord region of the dude's back, and he ends up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
Shoot him in the ankles or kneecaps (if possible) and he falls to the deck, immediately.
What would make me feel truly horrible, would be if AFTER I shot the "burly man," I found out that he was beating the snot out of a person who had sexually molested his underage daughter.
Believe me, THAT has actually happened, and when "the crowd" found out WHY the younger man was beating up the elderly one, some of the members of "the crowd" had to be pulled off the old fart, too.

Sure - you can use any defense you care to. Not sure if it will work, but you can use it. +5

You're reading If a burly man on the commute train is beating a senior passenger, you tell him to stop, he cuss you and cont. beating senior to a bloody pulp. If you took out a gun and shot him and he dies, can you use "in the defense of others" as a defense if charged?
