Flavour and flavour detection are highly subjective things. What I can taste intensely you may not taste so intensely. Gums have flavours in them that only last a short period due to the length of time that they re chewed for and the fact that the flavour compounds leach out with chewing, and you also get less sensitive to the taste the longer you chew it (same for smell).
