  • I think it refers to the speed at which I can unzip it, given the right circumstances. It's hard to explain. I'd have to show you. :)  
  • and, it's only the zipper on men's trousers, too. zippers on purses / bags aren't flies. the zipper was first made for men's trousers, wasn't it? buttons must've been difficult to contend with when your bouncing up and down prevented unbuttoning. fly = speed.
  • Actually the word applies the the flap that covers the zipper. It also applies to the flap that covers the entrance or forms a extension of the roof of a tent. It comes from the notion that such flaps look a bit like wings.
