St Johns wort is good for that, but keep in mind that many herbal supplements can have interactions with other conventional medications, and you need to tell your doctor if you are taking them.
Also ensure if you take herbal supplements that they come from a reputable supplier as sometimes the quality control can leave a lot to be desired (as in some tablets can contain more active ingredients than others - or no active ingredient at all). In addition to that, many have not had their efficacy tested, thus you are relying on anecdotal evidence only (which is proven sometimes when clinical trials are conducted - I am not against herbal supplements).
Eating a healthy diet and exercising help mood the best I think. Exercise releases serotonins in the brain which increase the happiness of your moods.

Vitamin B-complex supplements (B6, B12) and supplements containing Omega 3 such as Fish or Flax Seed Oils are good for helping with mood and I would consider them to have less 'side-effects' to taking St John's Wort - the problems of which I've noted below.

I'd steer clear of St John's Wart if you are on other psychiatric medications because it can interact with them and cause them not to work properly. St John's Wart also has quite potent psychoactive properties that can in some cases make mood worse rather than better (similar to the way in which some antidepressants actually hinder rather than help based on each person's individual brain chemistry - it's a subjective thing). Although it's not understood exactly how the 'active' chemicals within St John's Wort work upon chemicals within the brain, it should be noted that these active substances can differ in amount from batch to batch, product to product and pill to pill. The inconsistancies of this can lead to difficulties in maintaining chemicals within the brain at an equal, persistent level, which in turn leads to changeability in mood - because of a 'withdrawal' type effect when the amount of substance used to maintain mood becomes inconsistant - leading to depressive or 'PMS'-like side-effects.

A lot of people do, however, find St John's Wort helpful, it's just one of those supplements you have to be aware when you're taking it to stop if your mood goes downhill or becomes more changeable than before you went on it - in this case, it's best to see your local GP and/or a counsellor.

Bananas have also been known to help maintain mood in people with mild depression.
