Help answer this question below.
Well you arrive there along with another 500 people, you all sit around until they call your names (maybe) in groups of 24... then you go up to the court they called you for.. wait around some more time then you go in, listen to these long explanation by judge and DA and defense... and they pick 12 and ask them stuff, everyone they dismiss, another potential juror is picked... until they know they have the right 12, the rest go home.. meanwhile those who do not get picked at all for any court (80%) are sitting down there on their buts, falling asleep, talking on their cell phone and going out of their minds... at about 4 pm who ever is not picked goes home to repeat the same thing next year. Those who are picked will serve between 3-14 days... so help them god.
The attorneys for the defense will ask you as a group, what your views are on a certain question. They are looking for people sympathetic towards their client or can be unbiased in their judgement. It depends in which state or county you have to do your jury duty. I know in NYC you have to sit it out for 2 weeks. Sometimes they let you go after the first week if you have not been picked for a jury. If you are picked for a jury and depending on the case, you may have to serve until the trial has come to an end. I wouldn't sweat it if I were you. On the bright side, you won't be called again for another four years.
It involves much: "Can I get a book deal out of this trial?", "Golly, this room is hot/cold!", "I didn't realize time was so slow; the other time was when I in a Fluid Dynamics class in Uni...", "Should I miss work over this "nonsense"; is it worth the $50/day to avoid the bastard; I mean Boss"... ;)

You're reading Has anyone here ever been selected for jury duty? If so, what happens to you on the day when they select the jury members? What does it involve?
Comments
I was selected once, there were maybe 50of us waiting, they called the first 12 up to the jury chairs, then one by one they went down the line and both the defence attorney and the prosicuting attorney will decide to throw out a juror, when one is dismissed another will be called, they had their 12 by 11am when I was chosen.
