The horizons of the scene behind Mona Lisa are different on both side. The right horizon on the right side, apparently, is higher than the left side. The legend about the different level of the horizon is that Da Vinci thinked that ladies' position in the society was higher than men's in his mind.

He could have but there are other theories too.

Mona Lisa could have been a man, the lover of Leonardo. Mona Lisa could have been a pregnant woman, which would explain the mysterious smile.

The painting could have been a portrait of his mother.
Many believe her original name was Lisa.
