How do dry erase markers work?

    The ink is alcohol based, and made to dry quickly on whiteboard and most non-porous surfaces such as glass and overhead transparencies. After the ink is dry, it is easy to just wipe because the ink has attached itself to the surface but it not absorbed, so a dry wipe/cloth/eraser can easily take off the residue of the marker.

    The ink is a quick drying non-permanent ink. When it is applied to a non-porous surface like a white board it dries into a powdery substance on the surface. This makes it easy to wipe away from the surface.
