I agree with all of the above answers. You also need time and motivation. An editor's advice to writers who are blocked was, "Apply [rear end] to chair." Get up in the morning and start putting words on paper, whether you feel like it or not. It's a job of work.

live a life worth telling
Something to write on and something to write with.
Motivation, inspiration, a story and a computer(or paper and writing utensil).
Not much....paper, pen, pencil, or a computer and it appears you have a computer at hand....
Next (Basil's answer is awesome) Apply butt to chair and start writing!
Plan to write at least one hour every day, weather you feel like it or not.
If it's crap one day, you can fix it later. Just write.

I put a writing service up for auction, at 10¢/word. What do you think of this business model? Will it sell? Will people want writers to write them custom fiction after bidding on it in an auction?
