Menthol, an organic crystalline alcohol that occurs naturally in the oil of the peppermint plant and several other plants in the mint family, is what creates the cooling sensation. Menthol can be extracted from the plants, and in its extract form is is very strong. It is solid at room temperature and melts slightly above it.

Try Orbit's Spearmint gum, I had some a day ago, and breathing felt like I was out on a cold day.

Another choice is those little candy mints filled with minty gel, you can probibly find them at a gas station or local store.

Mint gives the flavour but it's menthol that has the cooling effect.
