When a cop starts going after a speeding driver, will it do any good for the speeder to pull in front of another driver in the hopes of making the cop mistake the car behind the speeder, as the speeder?

Probably not. Usually the cop will remember your car. One time I was speeding, going faster than everyone else and a bike cop pulled a U turn to come pull me over. I sped up to evade him, turned into a parking lot and hid. Then I saw that he pulled over the car behind me that was not going as fast. Sometimes it pays to try and get away.

- LOL, you did good! Sometimes, if I'm speeding and see a cop, I will make the next turn immediately and hide in an alley or a parking lot somewhere. Then I get to lose the cop...

Probably not. You would get hit for police evasion or maybe into a wreck, if not wreckless driving.

- Radio trumps keyboard WPM. The officer doesnt type anything in...he radios the info in to dispatch so his activity and location will be known in case he needs back-up or gets hurt. (former officer);-)

- I type 120 WPM and I can recall the license plate hours later and in the case of a remarkable plate months, so go ahead and speed up and try to get away and maybe we can turn a class C misdemeanor into a felony.

It may help but you'd probably get in a lot of trouble in the high chance that you were caught.

- I tried that tactic once. All the added remark was, ...and you VERY NEARLY caused an accident..." All I got was just the speeding fine, no extra charge.

Negative.

Many drivers attempt to do this, without any luck at all. it really ticks off some officers and they will write as many infractions as they can.

You can run, but you cannot hide.

- At least when I tried this once, all the officer added was the remark that "...you Very NEARLY caused an accident..." and simply gave me the ticket for the original speeding charge.
  
  Now I have a radar detector so that all this is less likely to happen in the future.

- Radar detectors only work on radar that is actively transmitting. Some officers still leave the radar on all the time, but many only activate it when they see a car that appears to be traveling at an excessive rate of speed and turn it off afterward. That radar detector may save you a citation a time or two, but don't be surprised when you see the cop before your radar detector does.
