Actually, I think it's grand! If you want to see bad, go look at the United States. Canadians like me pay $10,000CAD per year as opposed to $40,000+ per year. Also, their individual schools get their school tax from the immediate area of the school so if a school is in an impoverished area, the school will also be impoverished and that's why the poor in the USA can't get anywhere. At least in Ireland and Canada, all our schools get equal amounts of funding from Parliament as a flat rate per student so regardless of where the school is, it gets proper funding. So, your schools are fine. Ryanair, that's another matter! LOL

You're reading Why is the Irish educational system so messed up?
Comments
Sorry, I meant to say that Canadians pay $10,000CAD-$15,000CAD per year for University while Americans pay >$40,000USD per year for University. (And that's their cheap ones..lol) Education prior to university is of course covered by the provincial government.

I suppose financially the Irish educational system is good, just not in any other way. I go to a so called "disadvantaged school" which just means the government don't want to give us money. Consequently we have terrible teachers (a lot of them aren't even fully qualified) and it's very under-staffed. On the other hand, we have no fees as such to go to school but we do have to pay levi's and have to pay several hundred for exams. Also, University is cheap in comparison to other countries. There's a general €1,500 fee for the year. The downside to this is we have no student loans and therefore parents have to find the money at the beginning of every year. I see how Ireland is definitly better than other countries, but it's certainly not foolproof.

Humans are imperfect creatures my friend. No education system we ever come up with will ever be foolproof but Ireland certain has nothing to be ashamed of when compared to other countries. I honestly believe that the entire Western world should emulate countries like Norway and Iceland. Scandinavian countries are so well run that it almost makes me want to suffer the cold to go there. (Not that Canada is much warmer but our summers last longer in the south...LOL!)
