  • RAM affects the speed of your computer in random tasks such as how fast programs run such as: games, applications, etc. Adding more RAM is THE quickest way to add speed to a computer. ROM is associated with more permanent data such as saved files that need to be accessed and read such as what is needed to boot up a computer. All computers need a small amount of ROM for this reason, and a reasonable amount of RAM depending on what OS you use and what you plan to use it for. Obviously if you're a hardcore gamer you'd want ALOT of RAM (atleast 4 gigs and probably more)
  • RAM (RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY) is removeable and can be erased or altered. RAM is designed to work as a hub for moving bits of information around to access different programs and processes. Obviously the more RAM you have the more processes and speed your PC has to access different programs and run more of them at one time. When a computer turns off the RAM emmeory is not stored. ROM (RANDOM ONLY MEMORY) is not made to be removed, it cannot be altered or changed. IT is memory that stores pre-recorded information that is usually critical to the operation of a system such as Boot programs and is permanant, even when the computer is off the ROM info is still there. ROM info is generally much less than the RAM memory and is not upgraded like RAM is.
  • ROM (Read-Only Memory) is, in the perfect sense of the word, everything you can only record once. Like CDs, DVDs, some chipsets routines and stuff like that. The term is also used for your motherboard's BIOS, but it's been a while now since the BIOS really was a ROM memory. Now it's usually stored in flash memory, and you can rewrite it thousands of times. RAM (Random-Access Memory) is a fast type of memory the device uses to store programs and data in use at the moment. When you power it off, everything goes down the drain.
