Don't feel badly. Some words call for the duplicated "l" in UK English, but not in the US. I use travelled, but get dinged by the spell checker all the time. It's correct, just not preferred. I also use "centre" and "theatre".

I live in Canada and both versions of o/ou and re/er words are acceptable. The spell check can be quite irritating though. Thanks for the 6 points!
