To prepare for the collapse of the nutmeg crop. Massive drought and environmental damage is making it hard for the nutmeg trees to produce nuts. This key ingredient in such things as warm milk, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and... Pie will be in high demand Thanksgiving 2012. Should supplies dwindle to less than 5000 metric tonnes the average street price for 5 grams could go as high as $1000.

Because most of it only use it to top off our egg nog at Christmas. We forget we have a can (or more) stashed in the back of the cupboard, so we buy a fresh can. Year after year .....
Note: Buy fresh nutmeg and a grater. We finally did and it's a lot tastier.
Also use a little nutmeg in chicken soup, pea soup, whatever! Not too much; just a little to add interest.
