NO. Throwing change is assault (clear cut case in an aggressive situation). You can call the cops and have them arrested. You can not legally fight back beyond the minimum required to protect yourself.
If you fight back... depending on the state you live in... you will be guilty of Mutual Combat, a misdemeanor offense.
If you retaliate with lethal force in rage, it's attempted 2nd degree murder. If you succeed it's regular old Murder 2.
Of course these things can and do get pleaded down... and there's just nullification... and I'm sure some public defender who works for cheap doesn't have his head squarely crammed up his *ss. But it's not worth that, is it?

You're reading Seriously. If a customer verbally assaults you and you are hit by change they throw at you, can you legally hit them in the face as hard as possible with a crowbar with the intent to kill? (provided you did nothing wrong and feel threatened)
