Help answer this question below.

What brand of computers would you recommend for rackmount servers. I'm looking a server 1 or 2 CPU with 2 gigs of memory and 2 500 Gig SATA drives, with IPMI? (Anything but Dell)

    HP would be the pick of the crop however you can get some good bargains with IBM and Dell. I work on all these platforms and if price is an issue I would still recommend Dell servers. They are quite reliable these days and considerably cheaper.

    I personally use Silicon Graphics Computer Systems(they're not cheap) but they are amazing(ours is the TRUE SGIs) MIPS, and IRIX powered not crappy Windoze.

    We're using Fujitsu Siemens, everything we have on our network is Fujitsu Siemens, except the switches which are 3-com and Cisco, lol.

    Hp or IBM, then again how much money and time do you have?

    Both major manufactures have this server built and ready to be deployed, you can also ask to have the server configured prior to shipment (OS, drives, memory, etc), add a day or two to your delvery time.

    Then again if you have limited funds and the time you could build it yourself. You could save some money, a little research will tell you the cost of a pre-manufactured and the cost of doing it your self.

    I would guess with your spec's you are looking at 3-4000 from the manufactures.
