Question

Help answer this question below.

It was really cold the other night. I started my car and began driving and all my panel lights started going dim. than my headlights went out while driving. turned car off, wouldnt start. jumped it and it started, but wont turn back on. new alternator?

    from your profile i cannot tell if you are in the states.
    if you are advance auto and auto zone both will test your vehicle to find the problem.

    Before replacing things arbitrarily, troubleshoot the system and find the bad component. If you don't, you are throwing away money. How old are the battery and alternator?

    Troubleshoot by the process of elimination.

    have the battery tested first. At very low temperatures it might not supply enough power for the alternator to start working.

    First, check the battery.

    A bad battery can make the rest of the electrical system do all sorts of weird things.

    If the battery checks out OK, then the next most likely culprit is the alternator.
