Your throat is swollen (and probably inflamed). Take an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen, acetaminophen [Tylenol], or even diphenhydramine [Benadryl]) before you go on stage to prevent this. I have nothing against metal (Mastodon is in my top 10 favorite bands), but--speaking strictly with your health in mind--it would be best for you not to scream in your music.

You're reading I have been working on vocal fry (death metal style). I started learning in july and fully got it working prob mid august. it does not hurt to do. question is when i do it for a while i feel a lump in my throat. after i sleep it goes away. any idea why?
