4. A software engineer has the capability of thinking 100 lines of code in five minutes and can type 100 lines of code in 10 minutes. He takes a break for five minutes after every ten minutes. How many lines of codes will he complete typing after an hour?

    The answer is not 250, 300, or 400 like most people say. The question says he must take a break after every 10 mins (whether writing or thinking). Also this is assuming you don't think while your typing or on your break.

    5 min - thinking
    5 min - write 50 lines of code
    5 min - break
    5 min - write 50 lines of code
    5 min - thinking
    5 min - break
    10 min - 100 lines of code
    5 min - break

    now during the last 10 mins of productivity, the writer is going to use his time as efficiently as possible. Why would he think of extra lines of code if he is not going to write them? In that case, the engineer can think twice as fast as he writes so it would be.

    3.33 min - thinks of 66 lines of code
    6.66 min - writes 66 lines of code
    5 min - break

    total time = 60 mins total lines = 266.

    Alternatively you could have said total of 40 mins of productivity. Most efficient way to write code is 13.3333 min thinking 26.6666 min writing since he thinks twice as fast as he writes. 26.6666 min of writing at 100 lines of code per 10 mins = 266.
