I want a cat. I also want to travel the world teaching english in a year. If I get a cat, would I have to take that cat behind my fence and give it back to God when I decide to travel?

no, you give the cat to a neighbor. or if you really liked cats, you would train the cat to ride in your car and be a travel cat, like dogs are able to do.
