My house was built in 1939, shortly before the outbreak of WW2. When I moved in I had some renovation work done, including replacing some ground floor floorboards. When the old boards were lifted, I found an old newspaper underneath, dated May 1939. The headline read "There will be war by September". It was eerily accurate, and I wished I could have kept it. Unfortunately it didn't survive being brought up into a dry atmosphere and it all disintegrated.
