Obviously it's debatable, but I'd say the Pixies are a more likely candidate. Or even going back as far as the Velvet Underground, depending on which *type* of Indie music we're talking about here.
Anyone like My Bloody Valentine? Not the movie, the band. Anyone else get frustrated when people confuse them when talking about the band?

Pixies helped thats for sure. I know nirvana was heavily influenced by them. do you listen to fugazi? if so, im extremely impressed.

Here and there but not as extensively as other indie bands, like Kim Deal's "side-projects" the Breeders and the Amps. (I have an enormous girl crush on Kim Deal, by the way)
