Older Modest Mouse is far better. The Lonesome Crowded West, and The Moon & Antarctica are my favorite albums by Modest Mouse.

New Modest Mouse, though often disliked by many of their longtime fans is good music. It's creative and is very diverse in instruments used. The reason it falls short of the old material is that is lacks the raw passion that Isaac Brock put into his music. The old stuff is more unique than the new stuff and is in its own genre. i can't think of any other band out there that resembles their old stuff
