In the early stages of recovery, anything that takes your mind off recovery jeopardizes it. Sex certainly does that.
Another way to look at it is that preying on the newly sober is not very sober behavior.

You're reading What's wrong with "13th-stepping"?

I don't think 13th stepping is good, or wise, but I'm trying to understand what principle it violates if it's two consenting adults. There are so many ways to jeopardize our recovery, why is this one unique?
The reason I ask is because I don't think it is selfish manipulation all the time (for instance, if it were two naive newcomers, as opposed to someone with time taking advantage of a newcomer.) In those circumstances, it doesn't seem as manipulative and selfish to me.

Newcomers are unbalanced, and 99% of the time, they don't know what's best for them. 13th Stepping just enhances the unbalance instead of helping to even things out.
I'm not sure there's a principle of the program that's being violated.
