Is it possible to receive Faxes without connecting a laptop directly to a telephone line. (I access the Internet via a Wireless connection - will that suffice for sending and receiving faxes?)

You can do it via email using efax

There are a variety of online services which will allow you to receive and send faxes over the Internet. Here's a starting point:
