What does the sign on the back of trucks that reads "Caution Air Brakes" mean?

    Large trucks use air brakes instead of hydraulic like autos do. The way they work is strong springs apply the brakes and air pressure is used to let them go. There are exhaust ports on the axles that can kick up dust and gravel. This dust and gravel is what you are being warned about on this sign.
