    No way.
Wayne Gretzky is bigger than that.

It was a setback, for sure, but the guy isn't done with hockey yet. His career stats are untouchable, and he has done some good work with Team Canada, memorably bringing home a gold medal over the US in the 2002 Olympics.

I'm more interested to see where he goes from here than harp on how he couldn't save a troubled organization single-handed.

No. He will always be remembered as a great player, just like MJ.

    Not to me.
Too many great athletes should never try coaching.

Gretzky has always been a whiner...for me that's his legacy and always will be.

Indeed it will. It is the first negative outcome that you can associate with Wayne. His resignation will be accompanied with a rather dismal record as a coach. The first set back in the man's career.

Feel sorry for a gentleman that is responsible for the commercial expansion of the game in the USA but was "used" all along.

It first started with his trade, instigated by a crook with another crook. Finally, the NHL brass had an opportunity to rescue their icon and good Samaritan, but let him down. He is deserving of a better legacy.

No. All legendary sports figures aren't good coaches (except Bill Russell)> Look at Ted Williams, Frank Robinson and Magic Johnson. They failed miserably as coaches (and in Magic's case, a bad talk show host too).
