In South Africa it is legal, this drink is a well known shooter here and I have had many great nights with Absinthe.

    According to this site:
    http://www.absinthebuyersguide.com/faq.html#Anchor-14210

Absinthe is legal in many countries. There are still countries that prohibit the sale of absinthe, i.e. United States.

Even though absinthe is prohibited in the United States, it is not a controlled substance like Marijuana and Cocaine.

Absinthe is legal in the United States. I haven't tried it but definitely will. I did hear that it is not as potent though.

I was given a load of mini-bottles at Christmas here in the UK, I've not heard that it is illegal anywhere except perhaps middle-eastern countries :o)

I know you can get it in Spain, certain countries in Eastern Europe and I've seen a version of it available in Mexico.

The Czech republic (Prague), is the go-to place for accessible traditional absinthe. It can now be purchased legally in the states but has to meet guidelines restricting its ingredients. The percentage of wormwood-the hallucinagin-- must be below a certain level, and a specific type which is more stable. A Swiss maker sells one made from a recipe which hasn't changed in over 100 years. What you can buy here is fun for sure. An awake but sneeky buzz, drink enough and you might catch trails. The full blow stuff from prague is more intense and trickier. If you get some, drink it slowly with 1 or 2 fun pals. They are both worth the price and hassle.
