She was the most famous, but certainly not the best aviatrix of the pre WWII era.
It was suggested in one of the TV biographies (don't remember which one) that she was not very good with either navigation or the use of the radio. Which is why she had a copilot on the round the world trip.
Much of her fame came from her husband's adept use of the media and her publicity overshadowed such aviation greats as Jackie Cochran and Pancho Barnes.
There is a street named after her near every airport. Joni wrote a song about her.
She was a famous aviatrix in the 1930's, she attempted to fly around the world and ended up running out of gas somewhere around Howland Island, and she may have been captured and killed as a spy by Japanese soldiers. Oh, and she was married to George Putnam. Not sure if that's the same guy that did the news on KTLA TV 5 when I was a kid.
They never found her body.

How is Air Force One started? I know big planes don't have keys, but this is Air Force One. Shouldn't there be a key/code, something?

Why are more modern aircraft including Boeing 747 jumbo aircraft having more controls managed by computer or fly-by-wire? Is it safe?
