When watching a social realism film which contains teenagers, do you believe a fair representation of teenagers is better than an over exaggerated one? (2009-09-23)

    Yes, I do. I especially enjoy movies that show teenagers as individuals and not with mainstream stickers of "jock", "cheerleader", "goth", etc. Juno was good about avoiding that kind of thing.

    Of course, depending on where the story is set could depend on how exaggerated the culture seems to the viewer. I don't really like watching the "teacher saves the ghetto kids" because the kids always seem so annoyingly loud and stupid (even though in the end at the very least the main character proves their smarts... usually in a dance competition), but seeing as how I'm not in that culture, maybe it just seems exaggerated to *me*.

    Though exaggerated, I still think Brain DePalm's " Carrie " portrays the 'feel' of highschool years very well, better than many films I've seen. Fair representation ,too.

    And Gus Van Sant's " Elephant. " Fair representation, too
